However, the broadcast version of an anime title might contain a number of edits to appease the censors, while the DVD release usually contains the full and uncut version which might include 'objectionable' content. Also, I wouldn't rely on the censors knowing that a particular series has aired in Singapore.

As I've mentioned in a previous posting, Amazon's prices on R1 DVDs aren't very competitive. Have you taken a look at other online DVD retailers? I highly recommend Deep Discount DVD and DVD Planet; both have really good prices and ship internationally.

I'm no legal expert, but I very much doubt that they spent $3000-$5000 on legal and admin costs for every single downloader they catch. After all, if it involves 1000 downloaders, it then implies that ODEX spent $3 million - $5 million in all... which is something that I must take with a huge tablespoon of salt.

I believe that a lot has to do with Stephen Sing's inflammatory online postings. After all, he himself admitted that he should not have done that.

Couple that with the fact that several of the downloaders who were caught were primary school kids, and the whole picture becomes: some dude sues schoolchildren for downloading, and gloats about it later on.

Needless to say, that's a recipe for being singled out for flaming.
